Built Quietly

Join me on my relentless pursuit to be more, do more, and live an unreasonable life.
Note: You’ll notice shorter posts. I’m challenging myself to say more with less.
A few years ago, at my grandfather’s funeral, my uncle read a quote that has stayed with me ever since.
I liked it so much that I had it memorialized on a small plaque that now sits in my office.
“Those who preserve their integrity remain unshaken by the storms of daily life. They do not stir like leaves on a tree or follow the herd where it runs. In their mind remains the ideal attitude and conduct of living. This is not something given to them by others. It is their roots… it is a strength that exists deep within them.”
Funerals have a strange way of clarifying things.
They force you to pause and ask a question most of us avoid:
What would be said about me if my life ended today?
I was a proud grandson to hear that quote read at his funeral, because it reflected the kind of man he was: steady, principled, and rooted in integrity.
Not perfect, but consistent in the ways that mattered.
Character Is Built Quietly
Integrity isn’t formed when the storm arrives.
It’s practiced long before anyone is watching.
And when the day comes that others gather to remember us, what they say won’t be shaped by what we claimed to value, but by how we lived.
What a legacy it would be to leave behind words like those spoken that day.
My prayer for us is that we may all live in such a way that the people who love us most could say the same.
Don’t settle. Be relentless.
